Title of the Talk :
Reimagining Data Integration in the Era of Serverless Cloud Computing
Abstract of Talk:
The rapid adoption of serverless cloud platforms is fundamentally transforming how data integration systems are designed, deployed, and operated. Traditional ETL architectures, built around long-lived clusters and static resource provisioning, struggle to meet the scalability, cost efficiency, and agility demands of modern data-driven enterprises, particularly in regulated sectors such as banking.
This invited talk reimagines data integration through the lens of serverless computing, where infrastructure management is abstracted and compute resources are provisioned dynamically on demand. The presentation examines how managed services such as serverless Spark, event-driven ingestion frameworks, and cloud-native orchestration enable elastic scaling, improved fault isolation, and faster time to insight. It also highlights emerging challenges, including performance variability, cold-start effects, observability gaps, and governance constraints. Drawing on real-world banking use cases, the talk discusses architectural patterns for secure, compliant, and cost-aware data pipelines that support both batch and real-time workloads. The session concludes with practical guidance on balancing agility and control, and outlines future research directions in intelligent orchestration, metadata-driven automation, and self-healing data integration platforms for large-scale cloud environments.
